Assoc. Prof. Dr. Xiang Zhang | Experimental methods | Excellence in Innovation

China University of Mining and Technology | China

Dr. Xiang Zhang is an Associate Professor at the China University of Mining and Technology (CUMT), Xuzhou, Jiangsu Province, China, specializing in advanced materials engineering, additive manufacturing, and functional materials processing. She earned her Ph.D. in Materials Engineering from the University of Nebraska–Lincoln, USA, in 2022, following her Master’s and Bachelor’s degrees in Materials Science and Engineering from Central South University, China. Prior to joining CUMT in July 2023, Dr. Zhang completed a postdoctoral fellowship at the University of Nebraska–Lincoln, where she further strengthened her expertise in laser-based fabrication and microstructural characterization. Her research focuses on developing novel field-assisted and laser-based processing techniques for additive manufacturing, particularly for designing high-performance functional materials with tailored microstructures. A major theme of her work involves the fabrication and surface modification of Fe-based metallic glasses, high-entropy alloys, and Fe–Si systems for environmental and energy-related applications. She has made significant contributions to the development of additively manufactured catalysts for wastewater remediation, enabling efficient degradation of azo dyes and organic pollutants through innovative micro/nano-structural engineering. In parallel, Dr. Zhang has conducted pioneering research on lunar soil simulants and regolith-based materials, exploring spark plasma sintering and microwave processing routes to support future space construction and extraterrestrial infrastructure. Dr. Zhang has published extensively in leading international journals, including Separation and Purification Technology, Journal of Alloys and Compounds, Materials & Design, and Journal of the American Ceramic Society, reflecting the interdisciplinary impact of her research.
